Pilates for Runners

There are so many places to run in Dubai and with all the running tracks it’s easy to get fit on a budget. A great cardiovascular activity and even better when the weather is cooler and you can actually run outside! Did you ever wonder about your running technique and whether it is optimal? Are you at peak performance and hitting your PB 10K time? If not, maybe Pilates could be the answer.

The repetitive nature of running can create many imbalances in your body which can go on to create a myriad of problems in the body. Pilates is great for identifying muscle groups that may be weak which can then be helped to fire up and strengthen. Strengthening weak muscles will help to address muscular imbalances and help maintain a better running posture. Pilates also targets deep stabilising muscles, essential for good running technique and avoiding injury. Targeting deep stabilisers and weak muscles ensures a more balanced running technique. 

Pilates is also well known for improving posture and essential for running- focusing on correct gait with respect to your hip, knee and ankle alignment. The lengthening element of Pilates aims to loosen the hips, legs and lower back allowing you to achieve a longer stride and help to maintain optimal health of the hip joint. The focus in Pilates classes on core stability and balance will improve ankle mobility for trail running and help prevent injury. Try to add some Pilates to your workout and create greater awareness of what your body is doing and allow for optimal function to help improve your running!
