Pilates is a mindful movement discipline, not a fitness trend
Pilates is a mindful movement discipline and rehabilitative practice based on the anatomical and biomechanical principles of the human body. At its core is proprioception—the ability to sense and control body position and movement—enhancing coordination, balance, and neuromuscular efficiency.
Through precise, controlled exercises on the mat and specialized Pilates equipment, it develops strength, mobility, and alignment, optimizing physical performance and overall well-being. Rooted in breath, core stability, and movement integration, Pilates supports rehabilitation, injury prevention, and sustainable fitness, making it a powerful method for improving posture, relieving pain, and restoring natural movement patterns.
Joseph Pilates originally named his method Contrology, emphasizing a body, mind, and spirit approach to movement. His students later distilled his teachings into six core principles—Breath, Concentration, Control, Precision, Centering, and Flow—to preserve and simplify his method for future generations.
Whether practicing on the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, or other Pilates equipment, these principles ensure intentional movement, efficiency, and full-body integration. They serve as a foundation for both beginners and experienced practitioners, enhancing body awareness, alignment, and movement quality throughout every Pilates session.
The Pilates Academy® is more than a studio – it’s a movement lab rooted in anatomy, biomechanics, and intelligent training.
Our fully certified instructors use Pilates not as the end goal, but as a tool for health, performance, and well-being. We emphasize optimal movement, injury prevention, and functional strength, ensuring every session supports efficiency and longevity.
While Pilates principles guide our approach, we believe in challenging the body through diverse movement experiences. That’s why we integrate Rebounding, Suspension System, MOTR®, Fuse Ladder and Core Align, applying the same precision and knowledge across all disciplines to create strong, adaptable, and capable movers.
